THE BEAUTY HOTLIST: #2 POSH GOTH EDITION
Your monthly beauty and wellness edit of what's genuinely worth the cash and what isn't. This month: it's spook themed...
This is my monthly ‘beauty hotlist’ - a round up of the launches that are genuinely worth buying, and what’s all hype. It drops every payday, but only paid subscribers will have access to this insider edit. For full access upgrade now…
It’s Halloweek - which is the best time of the year!
I strongly believe that if we want to co-exist with beauty culture and the global juggernaut that is the beauty industry, then we need to question what we're using and if we’re getting any genuine pleasure from it.
Enter this spooky beauty edit. It’s full of gothic beauty products that I hope sparks a similar amount of joy in your dark hearts, as they do in mine. Not all goth beauty stuff is alike - just FYI there is loads of tatt out there, and by tatt, I mostly mean brand collabs with The Nightmare Before Christmas, et al - so this is a ‘posh goth’ beauty edit. These things are goth but they’re also a bit classy (like me, I’d like to say. The picture above suggests otherwise) so enjoy. And even if you’re not a goth, you’ll find something useful in this edit…
1.Estee Lauder Doublewear 24H Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Onyx, £27
This is a pricey eyeliner pencil, but it’s the most long-wearing pencil eyeliner I’ve EVER tried. It stays on the waterline all night and does this super cute smudgy thing the next day. It’s also the darkest black liner I’ve found - which is peak goth. One small warning - when it sets, it really sets so move quickly when you apply it as it can actually be a bit hard to blend afterwards. But either way, it’s so good.
2.Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick, £27
If Cruella De Ville wasn’t so obsessed with finding puppies for coats, then I think she’d have bought this mega goth lipstick instead. The case is beautiful and feels super goth, and the bullet is small - which makes it easier to apply than a typical large bullet (and is better for smaller lips too).
The colour I’m wearing is At Dawn, but personally I’d go for a darker shade like Can’t Live Without, below. Pull it out of your bag and feel your enemies quake with fear.
3.Rituel De Fille Celestial Sphere Gelee Eye Gloss in Serpens and Andromeda £31
I make no excuses for the fact that I LOVE this brand. It was created by three goth sisters who are all make-up artists or artists, it’s small batch and they create genuinely interesting shades and formulas. These eye glosses are a cross between a cream shadow and and an eye gloss, so they’re ideal if the idea of having glossy lids appeals, but you’re worried about the stickiness or upkeep. They leave a glossy veil over the lids, check it out below.
