A little festive special offer...
To say thanks for your support over the last few months, here's a wee discount...
I’ve loved creating and writing The Powder Room over the last few months - and if I’m totally honest, it’s made me fall back in love with journalism again. It’s such a dream to just write what I want, in the way I want - totally unedited.
I created this space to talk about the big issues in beauty culture that the mainstream media doesn’t discuss. The stuff that impacts our daily lives, like how to rethink getting older with an Ageing Plan, or assuming that weight loss automatically equals happiness (check out I’ve gone from fat to fluffy.)
Despite being a beauty journalist, I’m still a beauty consumer and part of the journey I’m on is to find a way to co-exist and enjoy beauty culture, whilst protecting myself from it eroding my self esteem and also holding it to account. That’s why - alongside the latter - I’ve loved creating super niche (or maybe lets say, bespoke?) product lists for the luxe goths out there, trying every box dye on the market so you don’t have to, or today’s list of my ultimate eczema-soothing products (from somebody who has suffered with it since I was born.)
Next year you can expect more of the same long-read thought pieces, fascinating interviews like this one with historian Professor Jill Burke on medieval beauty standards and photographer Juno Calypso who examines our relationship to beauty with her dystopian self portraits. And, I’ve got some very exciting ones lined up for next year too!
All of this - as you can imagine - takes a lot of work. I’m a freelance journalist who juggles writing alongside D&I work, consultancy and promoting my book UGLY. So if you’ve enjoyed my content this year, I’d LOVE it if you’d consider a paid subscription; and I’ve created a wee discount for you to use too. I’ll have some extra treats for paid subscribers next year too as a thanks for your support and I can’t wait to share them with you!
I want The Powder Room to be that place to help us (myself included) find a new way to think about beauty, to challenge the industry and ultimately to make peace with how we look and bring more joy to our relationship with it. So if that resonates, I’d love for you to get that direct to your inbox.
