Thank you for this. I am the complete opposite, rarely looking in a mirror unless it's unavoidable. I am Gen X and firmly of the belief that your mirror will turn on you but also because, recently, I feel that by not seeing the mass of imperfections that I see in the mirror, my day will go better. All I see in my reflection is what I see to be 'wrong' with me & things to pick over so maybe if I don't see these things then others won't either...it is exhausting & I know it's pointless at the end of the day.
I am off to print out your mirror messages now...❤
It’s such a tricky balance isn’t it! I remember a friend from school who would never look in the mirror, and part of me wonders is that an easier way to be! But I think I might try the mirror meditation to see how that goes - and I’ll do more of the post it notes too! Glad they helped!
I love how you weave in historical information into your posts. SO GOOD! I'm a Gen X-er, and I firmly believe that magnifying mirrors are the devil. NO ONE needs to see their face up that close!
Your relationship with the mirror totally resonates with me, yet I know that when I’m away without well lit or tried and tested mirrors, I’m so much happier!
Oh that’s interesting you’ve noticed it! I’m torn between trying to avoid it or to try the mirror meditation as a way to use the mirror in a more positive way!
I love the three tips at the end of your article. Once in a while I just tell myself “I love you “ in front of the mirror and it brings a smile to my face every single time.
As someone who has full blown body dysmorphic disorder that only erupted after one very challenging year of aging, I implore you--try everything you can to pull back from this now. It may be easier to relax the habit while you're still feeling reassured by your reflection most of the time; there's no guarantee that will hold as your body changes. Sending love.

Oh god they really are - although, very useful for eyebrow plucking. Apart from that they’re the devils work! 😂 and thank you!

Oh I love that! I should give that a go! I have to have the sticky notes or I totally forget and go into scrutinising mode. 🤪
