I like your thinking! My year has been a bit like that too but I've had decades of gloomth experience and the only thing I would add to the list is to play with makeup and fashion. Nothing cheers me up more than looking gloomy XD
Thanks so much for this post - need to expand my hot drinks range! I feel cosy and comforted after reading your words. I've recently finished "How to Winter" by Kari Lebeowitz, the neuroscience expert, who spent months in Tromso where they only have polar light for the darkest months of the year. It's an excellent complement to your Gloomth concept β¨
Adore this idea, along with Pomegranate Noir and Temple of Incense! I would also like to add selecting a dark classical themed playlist for reading or candlelit bathing to, just to really indulge in that gloomth
Omg I love these shows! Did you read the Call the Midwife book? Iβm not a cryer and used to sob at Call the Midwife and the book!
βI have a cosy TV routine every autumn. I start by rewatching Gossip Girl (the original, f*ck the new one,) and Gilmore Girls. By December Iβm balls deep in watching Call the Midwife, a cult British show that documents the lives of a group of midwives in Londonβs east end from the 1950s, itβs heartwarming and old timey.β
Oh wow! Didnβt know there was a tour. I would love to do that I also am trying out that cushion foundation stuff. I ordered through your link so π€π». It was the brand that had some kind of TikTok filter about finding oneβs shade. It took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out how to find and/or use said filter but I hope it works and I got the right shade. π€£
*Family money, unfortunately, stopped after my Grandfatherβs parents made it and my Grandfather was the most amazing grandfather but didnβt carry on his parentsβ legacy nor did he make best use of any inheritance he got. π€ͺπ
I seem to be supporting WAY too many people at $5/month (or so) on my senior's pension, so I sadly cannot subscribe to your Substack, but I have purchased a copy of your book, which I am eagerly awaiting. Re the gloomth thing, perhaps you'd enjoy following Cecilia Blomdahl (on Youtube or Instagram), who lives on Svalbard, where it is now polar night. Her videos, also featuring her somewhat taciturn husband and adorable dog Grim, are very cozy and lovely at this time of year.

I'm extremely into gloomth. As another goth who's scared of horror, my comfort watch is any Addams Family/sleepy hollow βΊοΈ
I am absolutely here for the Gloomth! π€π€π

Randomly my Grandfather went to Sandhurst with Lord Lucan! π

Oh wow!!! Does he know where he went?
I tagged you in a note with a photo!
My Grandad died in 2021 but they were close or anything. They are just in a military photo together.
